I visited my mum in Bournemouth and stopped on the way down at Wolvercote, a busy place by the River Thames near Oxford where there is a kingfisher nesthole right by the carpark. In past years I’ve watched a kingfisher whizzing in and out right where children and dogs are swimming. At first I thought it wasn’t being used this year then realised I could hear the chicks!!!!!
I’d never dream of getting so close normally but there were literally people launching canoes right beside me. An adult arrived with a fish and was sitting in the trees opposite, waiting for things to calm down before delivering it.
The sound was very quiet but unmistakably coming from inside.
