A kingfisher on the jetty below Cotterstock Lock. This is getting to be a regular place to spot one. It had just swallowed a fish whole – diving in, catching, subduing and eating it in just a few heartbeats. All while another bird was calling from about 30 yards away on the mill race. I’m guessing it must be an actual or potential pair. Hard to imagine it would have calmly fished then taken off in the other direction otherwise.
