9.30pm, Just back from the edge of Southwick Forest. There’s not a lot to see on this video as it was dark by then, but if you put the sound up there’s three minutes of some of the most blistering tawny owl sounds I’ve ever managed to record. One was in a tree right in front of me, the other somewhere close behind.
I’d already heard two other great sounds before then: a trio of ravens circling and kronking back at the Bulwick road; and a nightingale wheeting and growling for a couple of minutes just as dusk fell. That was quite a surprise – I kind of thought that would have stopped that back when they finished singing in June.
