I hear kingfishers and sparrowhawks on the riverbank but don’t often get to see them at the moment. So I cycled to Barnwell Country Park for a change. Two chicks were fishing near the hide. They were much more expert than a week ago, catching small fry with almost every dive. It’s a puzzle that two chicks have been allowed to stay on their birth territory, but it may be that the parents have moved elsewhere and left them to it.
It was pleasant sitting in a hide, sharing the company of some knowledgeable people and helping some others to spot their first kingfisher. A pleasant interlude which yielded some great photos, but again I missed the peaceful atmosphere of the riverbank.
